"I don't want actors reasoning with me about 'motivation'
and all that bull. All I want 'em to do is learn the goddamn
lines and don't bump into each other."
Jason Robards, Jr.
AUDITIONS and INTERVIEWS
The Heritage-O'Neill Theatre Company was formed during the summer of 2003 and is a professional, currently non-Equity, year 'round resident theatre company.
We concentrate our work to producing the plays of America's greatest playwright, Eugene
O'Neill, as well as the American classics from the 1920s through the early 1960s (O'Neill, Miller, Hellman, Steinbeck, Williams,
etc.) which have often been termed "the golden years of American theatre."
At this time, we present 3 full-length productions per season.
Auditions and interviews are held by invitation only.
While we build a very select core company of actors, technicians, and other
backstage and off-stage workers, we cast Company Members and Jobbers.
Resident Company Members (actors who have been with the company for
a minimum of one complete season and who commit to a minimum of 3 full seasons with us) are cast first and are first in line
for lead roles. Jobbers will be cast from outside the company for lead and secondary roles only if we are unable
to fill from within our company.
The following will help the actor understand our needs:
1. We seek actors who have made their stage career commitment
to performing professional theatre.
2. We seek actors who understand and connect especially well
with Eugene O'Neill, his characters, and his plays, who are willing to explore the "murky" qualities which lie within,
and who have a special affinity and passion for the American classics.
3. We cast actors who reside
within a commutable 50 mile radius of our theatre (those in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore areas), as there are no
provisions for transportation or housing at this time.
4. We want extremely positive, reliable,
talented, multi-skilled and easy-going people who are true "team
players," and who are extraordinarily passionate about Eugene O'Neill and the American classics. We value actors
who are intelligent, smart, sharp, reliable and dependable; actors who use their heads and think on their feet, who are
willing and able to go the extra mile, and who are flexible and easy to work with.

you in actual performance. If you are in a production which you are exceptionally proud of, and which demonstrates your
best work, you may request our attendance at this production, which should include the offer of 2 free tickets to the performance
of our choice and schedule availability. We'd be happy to accommodate your request pending our schedule and
availability.
